The number of jobs in Australia increased by 16,000 in January, while the unemployment rate was at 5.5 percent, according to the latest numbers released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.
This brings the total employment figures to more than 12 million in the country, while unemployment numbers was at 723,800.
The 16,000 increase in jobs was attributed to part-time employment which rose by 65,900, while full-time jobs fell by 49,800.
This beat forecasts slightly, which had predicted a rise of 15,000 in employment, a Reuters poll showed.
Employment for the previous month was revised to +33,500, from +34,700.
