2018 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs: Schedule and results

CLOSE

SportsPulse: The Vegas Golden Knights were never supposed to be here in the first place, but now their shot at a title is becoming more realistic than ever. Our NHL insider Kevin Allen on how this team has done the unthinkable.

The Stanley Cup playoffs have just one former champion in the final four.

That would be the Tampa Bay Lightning, who won it all in 2004. They have reached the Eastern Conference final three times in four seasons and got to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015, where they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Lightning will face the Washington Capitals, who last made the conference final in 1998. They also went to the Stanley Cup Final that year and were swept by the Detroit Red Wings. To get to the third round, the Capitals knocked off their nemesis, the two-time defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the Western Conference, the expansion Vegas Golden Knights continued to make history by sweeping the Los Angeles Kings in the first round and getting past the San Jose Sharks in six games in the second round.

The Golden Knights will play the Winnipeg Jets, who had never won a playoff game before this season.

The full conference final schedule has been released. All times Eastern.
